In Need Of Diabetic Shoes.

By Duane Mitch

One of the most devastating chronic illnesses is Diabetes. In this condition, your body does not process sugar like it always does. When you eat food, the sugar in the food is broken to glucose, which will then be sent to body cells for fuel. However, in a diabetes person, this normal process does not happen and so the sugar remains in their system, without being broken down. Since sugar is not properly absorbed normally, sugar levels in the blood become high. This leads to a lot of health complications arise, one of which is damage to the foot. Let's take a closer look at how this happens.

Diabetes damages the nerves in the extremities. One of the extremities affected is your feet, wherein you lose sensation in the feet. If you happen to scratch your feet as you walk, you cannot feel this problem, as there is no sensation of it.

If such small scratches are left unattended, they can lead to big ulcers, calluses and should these problems get worse your feet might have to be amputated. Problems in the feet usually arise because of wearing improper shoes. If you have diabetes, it is vital for you to understand that the usual kinds of shoes that you wear are not enough. You need to have Diabetic Shoes.

What makes these shoes so different? Well, they have been created specifically to deal with problems that arise when someone with diabetes exerts pressure on their foot in the course of doing their everyday tasks. The base of these shoes is wide and they are also deeper than your usual footwear. You will feel more comfortable when wearing Diabetic Shoes and you also do not have to worry about issues like accidental feet injuries. At all times, you will find that your feet are protected and that it won't get hurt when you do you walk normally or when you carry out your daily activities.

There are two types of Diabetic shoes available in the market. One is the custom molded shoes and the other is the depth shoes. Custom molded shoes as the name suggests is made custom, made for a person's feet. The design and curve of the shoe follows along the shape of the person's feet for whom it is designed.

It includes inserts that can be also removed should the wearer not want to use them. Diabetic Shoes are made from leather or similar material. They usually all have Velcro openings. Depth Shoes are slightly different from Custom Molded shoes. The Depth Shoes have liners running from the front toe area of the shoes to the heel area. The shoes are not made specifically according to the shape of a person's feet. However, these shoes are designed in such a way that they provide maximum comfort for the feet while walking and give good enough feet protection. They shoes are also made out of leather material and include Velcro openings.

As someone with Diabetes, it is important for you to buy and regularly use only Diabetic shoes. Depending on what you want and what you are comfortable with, you can choose either a depth shoe or a custom made shoe. With such shoes you can be sure of protecting your feet against elements that can cause serious foot injury. - 16651
