The Music Career of Miley Cyrus

By Amanda Davis

These days, famous kids often come from parents who are famous themselves. Particularly kids that are super-famous super-young! Destiny Cyrus or, as most kids know her, Miley Cyrus is the star of Disney's popular TV show Hannah Montana.

Cyrus plays Miley Stewart, who has a secret double life as a high school teen and international superstar singer! The show is consistently one of the most popular on The Disney Channel because Disney plays on the "wish"... that is, teens watch because they wish they could be Hannah Montana!

Her famous father is country music singer Billy Ray Cyrus who had a number one hit in 1992 with "Achy Breaky Heart". Miley has even accompanied her dad on a few of his concerts to show that she really has singing talent.

Miley's first album was released in 2007 and it was coupled with her Hanna Montana character. There are two discs included but the second disc was all about Miley. She has writing credits on 8 of the 10 songs she sings.

Her musical career continued with her second CD "Breakout," which was released in 2008 and marked Miley's first CD release with no mention of Hannah Montana. The album continued her brand of "teen pop" and some say was aimed at an even younger audience than Hannah Montana - tweens who want to feel grown up by listening to her music. Once again Miley wrote a large amount of the material she performed - this time she has writing credits for 8 of the 12 songs on the album.

Since Miley wanted to focus on her singing talents and could do so with Disney's help she also performs live in concert as Hanna Montana and Miley Cyrus. By touring and performing live to millions of fans her first album reached #2 on the Billboard charts and her second album topped the charts at #1.

Her concert tour called the "Best of Both Worlds" after her hit television theme song ran from 2007-2008. Her tour garnered 36 million dollars. The tour started October 18, 2007 and ended March 9, 2008, Miley played 71 shows.

Miley has made it clear that, although she could do well as a TV star, she wants to be recognized as a serious musician and not just be type-cast as a teen star. She has already contributed to the soundtrack to Disney's major movie "Bolt" in which she performs a duet with John Travolta. The song is called, "I Thought I Lost You."

Miley's desire to become a musician might have been the influence of her dad, but her success is purely down to a great talent and a lot of hard work! - 16651
